About Us

A Better Place is a retail store offering exclusively fair trade certified and eco-friendly products. Our mission is to provide our customers with exceptional products, while helping disadvantaged artisans and farmers around the world. It is important to educate our customers about the lives of the artisans by providing as much detailed information about how fair trade is working to improve their living conditions. Whether it is the coffee you drink every morning or a special gift you buy for a friend, you will know that you are making a difference in the lives of many and setting an example for your community.

We are located in Brunswick, Maryland. We are currently showcasing our merchandise at home shows, various trade and community shows, and on our website. To place an order, please contact us at info@better-place.org or call us at 240-674-7000.

Lindsay Shipley, founder and president
Lindsay Shipley is the Founder of A Better Place. A loving mother of three, she has spent much of her life caring for other people. It was out of care, concern, and love that she created A Better Place in hopes of giving people a better life around the world through Fair Trade. Shortly after graduating from Hood College with a B.A. in History and Political Science, she became inspired to open a fair trade store in her community. Having concentrated on international politics, she found that opening a fair trade business would allow her to educate her community about fair trade and offer a convenient way to purchase fair trade products while improving the living conditions of impoverished people around the globe.
Kevin Shipley, technical director
Kevin is the technical director of A Better Place. Basically, he has made this whole thing possible! Currently, he works full-time as an Administrative Operations Specialist for the public school system. Between working full-time, and taking care of a family, he has solely developed A Better Place's website, making way for our first opportunity to educate our community on fair trade and our producers.
